Welcome to Built by Margin, the podcast where strategy meets the spreadsheet. I'm your host, Laurie Chen, fractional CFO and tax strategist, here to help you make smarter financial decisions, build a profitable business, and keep more of what you earn. Let's dive into the numbers that actually move the needle. Welcome to Built by Margin, episode 10. I'm thankful for all the guests that have appeared on the podcast. Robin Penner Thiessen, Alex Mayer, Kim Sutton, Brianne Benson, Antonio Green, Char Chung, Byron Wolfe, and Samuel Crane. And I'm looking forward to welcoming new guests onto the show this month. We have Tony Hong, a CPA and Master of Tax Strategy. And we have Courtney Jacobs, a Functional Nutritionist, onto the podcast this month. It's hard to believe that half of 2025 is over already. Today's July 2nd. I've been working on a lot of exciting things lately, and good things are happening in life that I'm really happy about. One exciting happening that I want to share with you all is that I'm currently working on writing a book that will be published in 2026. The title of the book is called Risk Worthy, and it's about making difficult decisions and moving forward in life and in business. I am excited to share a practical framework for evaluating risks and making hard choices that move you forward without any regrets. We are all faced with countless decisions every day, every week, every month, and every year. We are stuck in an infinite game of risks and decisions for the rest of our lives, whether we like it or not. Are we going to keep making decisions solely based on the upsides, downsides, and expected returns? I'm a fractional CFO and tax strategist for venture capital-backed startups, and I'm an angel investor myself in companies. So I know a thing or two about risk, return, and financial loss. In making my decisions, I have applied the conventional approach of evaluating upsides versus downsides, evaluating affordability, and long-term costs. These are questions that can't be ignored, but must be subordinated to a greater framework for risk evaluation, which I call the risk-worthy framework. The conventional wisdom is that what makes something risk-worthy is that the potential upside justifies the uncertainty. But based on my research, interviews, experience, and gut, what makes something risk-worthy is its ability to create the best version of yourself and your best possible future. I'd love to share more. Subscribe to my podcast to follow my journey to writing Riskworthy. Thanks for tuning in to Built by Margin.
